The Focal Point Challenge

Happy Sunday, friends!  It's been a while since my last post so I'm glad to be back on Blogland!  Today I am posting a card for Moxie Fab's 'Focal Point Challenge'.  In case you have not seen it, Papercrafts just published an excellent magazine that I believe all card makers should have.  It is called 'Card Design Handbook' and it is full of card making concepts that will expand your knowledge of card  making vastly.  The card samples are fab as always!  Click here to take a look at this must-have issue! No, I don't get paid for promoting them!  LOL.  I just love this issue!

So, based on The Card Design Handbook, Cath at Moxie Fab World has created a series of challenges incorporating some of the concepts on the magazine.  I just had to participate, so I have created a card for The Focal Point Challenge.  According to the Card Design Handbook, the focal point is defined as the main area where the embellishment or image stamp is placed.

With that in mind, here is my card:

My focal point is the light bulb.  The idea of the beams of light behind the bulb came from a tutorial by Gina, at Stamp TV.  Click here to take a look at the technique.  It is fairly easy and I love the effect it creates.

After creating the beams of light, I stamped the lightbulb on yellow cardstock and cut it out.  Then I paperpieced the heart with red cardstock.  Since my background got a little 'packed' with the little hearts (I couldn't resist), I decided the lightbulb needed a little something to stand out.  So…  I added some sparkle by coloring the heart with a clear Sakura pen.  I also colored the bottom of the bulb with a metallic silver gel pen.  Then I adhered the lightbulb to the card using dimensional foam squares, which makes the focal image pop-out (literally!) from the background.

Hope you enjoyed the visit!  Thanks for stopping by!
