Underwater Birthday

Hello!  Long time no "see"!  I've been falling behind on my blogging, again!   I am done with the little details in my new craft room and I have to say I love it!  I still have one wall I want to dress up a little bit but I'm in no hurry.  The other 3 walls are done and the work space is done, so I'm good!  Stay tuned; I'll be posting before and after pics, along with some organization tips I used!

And back to the post, today I'm posting a card I made for Stamp TV's Monday Challenge (Hot and Cool), together with My Craft Spot's Challenge (Hot Summer Colors).  Being the two are kind of similar I made a card fit for both challenges.  The Hot and Cold challenge was to use 'hot' colors in a cool setting.  So I decided to create a birthday card using bright summery colors, in an underwater setting.  The card is for a cute little boy so the bright colors are right on- I made the theme an underwater birthday party.  Here's the card:

The DP from Gina K Designs is perfect for the ocean so I used that as the background, then added the stamped images.  I traced the sea horse with orange metallic pen, and then colored part of it with a clear sakura pen.  To make it more kid-friendly and festive, I cut out a triangle from the same DP I used for the flag banner and used it as a birthday hat!  I also use the sakura pen to delineate the shells (4 for his 4th birthday) and also on the castle.  I used copics to color the images.

Well, my friends, that's it for today.  Thank you for stopping by! I will see you soon with posts from my craft room!  Come back and visit!

Have a bright day!

Lighthouse

Hi, there! It's been a while since I played at My Craft Spot, so today I'm posting a Father's Day card for My Craft Spot's Monday Challenge!  The challenge is titled "King of the Grill" and it calls for Father's Day cards.  Here's my card:

I just love this stamp set (Gina K Designs 'By the Sea')!
The DP is also GKD (Pool Side Paper Stack).

Inside:

And then I decided to make a bookmark to go with it:

You'll notice I used the same lighthouse image than on the card, but the bottom is not quite the same.  Since the bookmark is a lot narrower than the stamp, I masked it to only show the lighthouse, not the sand around it.  I could have used a stamp marker but I thought it was easier to mask the stamp.

Ok, my friends, hope you enjoy my "flash" post today.  Thanks for stopping by!

"L" Birthday

Hi, again!  I'm on a roll this week!  LOL.  Today I'm posting for Stamp TV's Monday Challenge, which calls for making a card using a 1, 2, or 3 letter monogram.  Since I needed a birthday card for a friend, I thought of making it using her first name initial: L.  Here's the card I came up with:

I did not have any large scale letters to use for the monogram so I decided to make my own by cutting the design paper to shape the "L".  I cut out two stripes and shaped as shown.  I love the colors of the paper (Ooh La La paper stack from My Mind's Eye).  Gina K. Designs' Jelly Bean Green card stock coordinated perfectly with this paper.  The flower stamp is also from GKD (sorry, I got it from a grab bag prize and I don't know the name of the stamp set it came from).

The card's front is shorter than the back so I placed some of the DP inside of the card (just at the bottom) to add some interest.  I also punched the edge of the card to make it stand out.

Well, that's it for today, my stamping friends!  Thanks for stopping by!

Father's Day Drops

Hello!  As Father's Day approaches, I really need to start making some Father's Day cards!  Today I made one inspired by Moxie Fab's Tuesday Trigger.  Here's the 'Man-tastic' image:

I was inspired by the drop shapes and the colors.  Upon seeing the pattern, the Memento Drop Inks came to mind and I thought they would be the perfect tool for this challenge.  I used a direct-to-paper technique using the Memento Drop ink pads in a color palette inspired by the trigger.  Here's the card:

I thought adding brads would add some 'toughness' to the card.  Then I also thought round corners would look nice with the drops.  And then I thought (lots of thinking here! LOL): why can't I do both?!?!  So I did!

Below are some images showing how I did the direct-to paper technique:

First I drew a straight line with blue ink pen (Zig, Millennium - Pure Blue) as shown above.  Also shown are the Memento Drops I used: London Fog, Lady Bug, and Bahama Blue.

Once you decide which pattern to use, just apply the ink pad directly to the paper as shown (I basically used the ink pad as a stamp).  Press just enough to get the 'footprint' of the pad on the paper.  I was not too worried about getting a perfect 'image'.  I actually like the distressed look of it.  You may also get some spatter.  I had a few spots here and there but I think they go well with the distressed look so spatter on!

Well, that's my card for today!  Thank you so much for stopping by!

Wedding Bells

Hi, there!  Hope your week was off to a good start!  I had a great day today: This is the last week of school and my daughter had her "Move-up" ceremony.  She had such a great year and has learned so much...  Now it's off to first grade...  It seems like she was born the other day!  (Sigh...)

Anyways, I've been working on a couple of wedding cards, and it was the perfect week to do so as Stamp TV's Friday Challenge is to make a wedding card!   The  card I made last week is white, silver, and light blue, so I wanted to make something a little different, but still elegant.  Here's the card:

I felt like doing some kind of embossing and decided to experiment with letterpress using the 'Rebecca' Cuttlebug embossing folder.  To make the embossing stand out and still be elegant, I chose to ink the folder up with  Memento's Brilliance Galaxy Gold ink.  Then I distressed over the embossing with Tim Holtz distress inks Antique Linen and Tea Dye.  One thing I liked was that when I was distressing over the embossed folder, the dauber picked up the shimmer of the Brilliance ink and spread it neatly all over the card as I distressed.  It added just a hint of shimmer without being overpowering.   Last, I used Memento's Brilliance Cosmic Copper to stamp the bells image (GKD 'With this Ring').

I added some layers of 'gold' and 'copper' papers to tie-in the colors used on the image and embossing.  At the top of the card I stamped the sentiment with the same ink I used for the embossing folder and added a little bling to balance the card out.  I also added some bling on the bells.

Since the outside of the card is so elegant, I decided to dress up the inside just a little bit:

I have to say, I'm loving the Memento Brilliance inks!  The shimmer they have is just right and work great to dress up your project without heat embossing.

That's it for today!  Thanks for stopping by!
