Repurposed Jar

Good morning, crafty friends!  I'm having a quiet Saturday morning and decided to do a post of a little project I made last week but have not gotten around posting…  I've had this manzanilla olives jar for some time, waiting for the inspiration to kick in to repurpose it.  With the latest Tuesday Trigger I knew just what to do to give new life to this jar.  Here is the trigger:

I had already made a project for this trigger (see here), but the inspiration for this one was different.  I made some reference to the color scheme of the trigger, but the main inspiration here were the houses and the sense of community.  Here is my repurposed jar:

Here is a view of the top:

The lid was black and I did not want to paint it so I decided to cover it up with a doily.  The black still comes through, which blends well with the colors I used on the project.  To add personality to the doily, I distressed it with Tim Holtz 'Antique Linen' distress ink and sponged in some Memento 'Tangelo' for a hint of color.  Then I weaved some rustic twine around the doily's edge, added a wooden button at the end, and tied up.

The houses are from the Gina K Designs stamp set (Home Is).  I decided to use the same stamp for the houses because I live in a condo and buildings are the same.  Inspired by the sense of community in the trigger, I made the jar with my neighbor in mind.  I plan to bake some cookies, put them in the jar, and give them to her.  So this trigger inspired me to more than making a project…  It also reminded me of neighbors and how we can cultivate a sense of community by doing something as simple as sharing cookies!

So that's my repurposed treat jar!  Thanks for stopping by!

Have a bright day!

Friendship Tree

Happy Friday!  Hope you had a nice week and are ready to enjoy the weekend.  I know I am!  My dad came for a visit, and while he's been sick for the past two days, today he is feeling a lot better.  Some kind of stomach bug…

So, I have managed to squeeze in card for one of my favorite challenges: Moxie Fab's Tuesday Trigger, Val de Victorian.  Here's the trigger:

I love this color combination…  I was also drawn to the geometric shapes, especially the the oval trees. So here is the card inspired by the trigger:

I usually do a lot of stamping on my cards but for this one I was drawn to using mostly paper.  The trees kept popping into my head so I decided to make a 'tree' card.  To create the image I cut out geometrical shapes from scrap paper in colors from the trigger. I also wanted to play with patterns and textures to make the image more interesting.  I thought the sentiment went really well with the image since it takes a long time to grow a tree.

So 'cheers' to old friendships that stand the test of time!  Thanks for stopping by!

Grateful Heart

Hello, crafty friends!  It's been a while since my last post…  Busy bee over here!  Not complaining, though…  Anyways, today I want to share a card I made for StampTV's World Card Making Day Challenge.  I'm entering kind of late but, hey, I made it!  LOL  On that note, I can't believe I made no cards, zero, cero, nada… on World Card Making Day.  But sometimes other things take precedence and so for me, today is my personal World Card Making Day, and for card making I am grateful!

For this challenge Gina is challenging us to do a faux layer card, meaning the card looks like it has layers bit it really doesn't.  It's a pretty cool technique, you can check it out on the challenge post.  Here is my card:

I used distress inks to make the 'layers', and stamped the images with Versamark ink before distressing over them. I created the shape from the focal image with Spellbinders Labels 1 (the largest one on the set).  The stamps are from the Gina K Designs Fall Foliage set.

I'm keeping it short and sweet today.  I have an early morning and feeling pretty tired, so I'm retiring to my bed!  Thanks for stopping by!

Have a bright day!
